Labour Insight: Upcoming changes for Australia, New Zealand and Singapore Postings Data

Lightcast will be transitioning the Australia & New Zealand postings data to our improved infrastructure to power job postings

Overall posting volumes and trends in Labour Insight remain stable, and the changes described here are limited to how some postings are classified.

Product affected: Labour Insight Australia, New Zealand and Singapore

Overview

What is changing?

Lightcast is investing in Labour Insight by moving it onto our new infrastructure. As part of this, we are aligning classification across our products, so the postings you see in Labour Insight will be classified in the same way as the postings in our data shares and Job Postings API.

Timeline: when will this change take place?

The release is planned for end of business day on 26th October 2026

What are the benefits of this change?

  • Consistent classification across Labour Insight, Lightcast data shares and the Lightcast Job Postings API.

  • Access to ongoing classification improvements as soon as they are released across Lightcast products.

  • Improved coding of skills, education and experience requirements, and Lightcast Occupation Taxonomy (LOT) occupations.

How does this prepare Labour Insight for future improvements?

This move sets up Labour Insight to benefit from wider improvements Lightcast is making to its company and skills data, as these are rolled out across our products.

  • Lightcast Companies: from 20 November 2026, Lightcast Companies becomes the default company database across job postings and profiles. It brings expanded global company coverage, improved name normalisation, parent and subsidiary hierarchies, and a flag for staffing companies. For Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, more companies will also be classified with a local industry code, giving you a fuller view of industry demand.

  • Lightcast Skills: Taxonomy, Methodology and Skills v10: Skills v10, adds a dedicated Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning category with 12 subcategories. It also consolidates over 1,000 overlapping skills, so each skill represents one distinct concept and is easier to find and analyse.

Impact

What will this change mean for me?

Total posting volumes are effectively unchanged.

Rankings of top values remain consistent across almost all fields. Most top values move by less than 1%. A small number of categories show larger shifts, which are set out in the section below.

Will any labels or spellings change?

Yes. To keep classification consistent across Lightcast products, some taxonomy labels will now use US spelling. The underlying postings are unchanged; only the label name differs. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, particularly if you have saved searches, filters or reports that reference these labels.

The tables below list values that move by around 3% or more, across all years of postings history. All other top values in these fields change by less than 1%.

What does this mean for my analysis?

  • Overall trends remain consistent, as total volumes and the rankings of most top values are effectively unchanged.

  • Consistent trends: looking at rankings and distributions, you will see the same or very similar results for most occupations, employers, skills and other data points.

  • More noticeable changes in specific analyses: where your work focuses on one of the values listed above, such as early childhood teaching, receptionist roles or postgraduate education requirements, you may see larger shifts. In these cases, we recommend rerunning the analysis so that your figures reflect the aligned classification. This is most relevant where the specific volume of postings matters more than trends or relative measures.

  • Saved searches and reports: please check any filters that use the relabelled values in the spelling table above. Updating them to the new labels will keep your results complete.

Technical notes

Why are these classifications changing?

Labour Insight now uses the same classification as Lightcast data shares and the Lightcast Job Postings API. Where these classifications differed, Labour Insight has been brought into line, which is why a small number of values move noticeably while totals stay stable.
