Population Data

Hong Kong’s population was gathered from the country’s Census and Statistics website. Using historical trends, and assuming the current activity prevails, we were able to establish a reasonable expectation for predicting future population values. Our population projections are based on two projection models: The Monte Carlo simulation model and the Autoregression Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models.

In addition to the LMI data mentioned here Lightcast also offers insights through Global Postings and Global Worker profiles in Hong Kong.

Labor Market Information (LMI) Data

We obtained Labor market information (LMI) for Hong Kong from the government’s 2016 census data website. That source allowed us to get an occupation by industry overview of the labor market on an International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08) basis. We applied a staffing pattern derived from the EU to expand those categories to 4-digit ISCO more in line with the Global Occupations.

When creating the occupation supply projections, we took the expected population growth rate from the models mentioned above and applied that same growth rate across the country and then mapped the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08) to Global Occupations.
