Overview
Layoff Activity section provides visibility into employer-reported workforce reductions using Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices.
These insights can help users understand where layoffs are occurring, which companies, industries, and regions are affected, and the scale of reported workforce reductions.
Data for this section is sourced from publicly reported state WARN filings.
Layoff Activity section is available within three reports in U.S. Analyst:
Company Analytics: Understand reported layoff activity for selected companies.
Industry Snapshot/Overview: Understand reported layoff activity within selected industries.
Market Snapshot/Economy Overview: Understand reported layoff activity within selected markets and regions.
Together, these different views allow users to evaluate workforce disruption from a company, industry, or regional perspective.

Understanding the Layoff Events Table
Beneath the key highlights, the Layoff Events table provides additional information about individual WARN events.
Depending on the report and available source data, information may include:
Column Name | Description | Used in |
Company | Company that filed the WARN notice. | All reports |
Industry | Industry associated with the layoff event. | Industry Overview/Snapshot |
Region | Region associated with the layoff event. | Economy Overview/Market Snapshot |
Event Date | Best available reported date for the layoff event. | All reports |
Employees Affected | Number of employees impacted by the layoff event. | All reports |
The specific information displayed may vary based on the report because each report provides a different analytical lens.
The table displays the most recent layoff events, up to 50, with additional results available in increments of 10.
Data Coverage and Limitations
WARN does not represent all layoffs. WARN requirements apply only to qualifying employers and workforce reduction events. Smaller layoffs and other workforce reductions may not require a WARN notice.
Arkansas, New Hampshire, and Wyoming are not currently included. WARN layoff data is not currently available within this dataset for Arkansas, New Hampshire, or Wyoming.
Affected employee counts may be incomplete. Some WARN notices do not provide an affected employee count. These events remain included, but their employees are not included in aggregate employee totals.
Event Date is a Lightcast-derived field. It provides a consistent way to determine which events fall within a selected time period but should not necessarily be interpreted as the exact date employees were laid off.
