Profiles Table and Profiles Map

Overview

Profiles Table and Profiles Map help users explore publicly available professional profile data and analyze the supply side of the labor market across regions, schools, occupations, industries, companies, skills, and other workforce characteristics.

A profile represents an individual worker's publicly available professional information collected from various public online sources. Lightcast processes and enriches this data to standardize information such as company names, occupations, skills, and geography, and performs additional filtering to improve compatibility across Lightcast data sets.

Profiles Table and Profiles Map provide flexible tools for analyzing profile data through filtering, customizable metrics, exports, and geographic visualizations. These reports are available for US, UK, and Canada across Analyst wherever Profile Analytics is offered.

Note: Profile data is self-reported. To learn more about how profile data is collected and its limitations, see [Self-Reported Nature of Profile Data].

Helps to Understand

These reports can help answer questions such as:

  • How many worker profiles match the selected criteria?

  • Which job titles are represented within the selected population?

  • Which industries employ the selected workforce?

  • Which occupations are associated with these profiles?

  • Which companies employ the selected workforce?

  • Which schools did these workers attend?

  • What workforce characteristics, such as tenure and experience, are represented?

  • What demographic trends, such as gender representation, can be observed?

  • How does profile supply compare with job posting demand?

  • How are profiles distributed across geographic regions?

How to Generate the Report

To generate a Profiles Table or Profiles Map report, begin by selecting the filters that define the workforce you want to analyze such as occupation, region, company, industry, or skills.

After you've selected your criteria, run the report to explore workforce profile insights for the selected population.

Once the report is generated, the filters remain available in the left-hand panel, allowing you to further refine your results.

Note: Searching across all profiles may result in slower performance. For the best experience, apply one or more filters.

Selecting Report Filters

Use the following filters to define the workforce you want to analyze before generating the report.

Select a Region:

The region selection process differs slightly between Profiles Table and Profiles Map.

Profile Table

Profile Map

Select a region using either Government Region or City.

  • Government Region - Use this input to search for administrative regions like: Mississippi (State), King County, WA (County), or Los Angeles, CA (MSA).

  • City - Use this input to search for more localized city names like: Bellevue, WA, Marietta, GA, or Alexandria, VA

Select either All Available or Limit by Region.

Selecting Government Region opens the Advanced Region Selection window.

Selecting Limit by Region opens the Advanced Region Selection window.

Note: The Advanced Region Selection window provides additional options for defining geographic areas.

Select a School

Select one or more schools to include in the report.

Available options include:

  • Specific Schools – Search for and select individual institutions.

  • Schools in a Region – Include schools located within selected geographic areas.

Note: Selecting Schools in a Region opens the Advanced Region Selection window.

Select a Profile Graduation Year

Choose one of the following options:

  • Any: Include all available graduation years.

  • Select Range: Limit results to a specific graduation year range.

When using Select Range, select the start and end years from the dropdown menus.

Select Data to Display

Before generating the report, choose the data categories you would like to include.

Available options include:

  • Online Profiles

  • Gender % Breakout

  • Longevity

  • Posting Comparisons

  • Custom Data Selection

Enabling a category automatically adds the associated metrics and columns to the report.

Category

Metrics Added

Profiles

Online Profiles, and % of Online Profiles

Gender % Breakout

Male %, Female %

Longevity

Median Tenure, Median Years of Experience, Median Years in Current Role, and Median Moves in Current Company

Posting Comparisons

Unique Postings, No: of Companies Posting, and Annual Median Advertised Salary

Select Custom Data Selection to choose individual metrics rather than entire categories.

Optional Advanced Options

Configure additional filters using Advanced Options.

Select Run.

Advanced Region Selection

The Advanced Region Selection window allows you to define geographic areas more precisely when generating a Profiles Table or Profiles Map report.

Depending on your reporting needs, regions can be selected using drive-time analysis, distance-based searches, manual browsing, or saved groups.

Drive Time

Use the Drive Time tab to identify regions within a specified driving distance of a location.

  1. Enter a city, address, business, or point of interest.

  2. Specify a drive time.

  3. Define how regions should be included in the results:

    • Contains region's centroid – Includes regions whose geographic center falls within the drive-time area.

    • Contains entire region – Includes only regions that fall completely within the drive-time area.

    • Contains part of region – Includes regions that intersect the drive-time area, even if only partially.

  4. Select the geographic unit to use:

    • Counties

    • MSAs (Metropolitan Statistical Areas)

  5. Select Select to apply the region(s).

Radius From Address

Use the Radius From Address tab to identify regions within a specified distance of a location.

  1. Enter a city, address, business, or point of interest.

  2. Specify a search radius.

  3. Select the geographic units to include in the analysis.

  4. Select Select to apply the region(s).

Like Drive Time, Radius From Address supports the same region inclusion options:

You can also apply these options when selecting either:

  • Counties

  • MSAs (Metropolitan Statistical Areas)

Browse

Use the Browse tab to manually select geographic regions.

The Browse tab allows you to filter and select regions by geographic level.

  1. Select a geographic type:

    • Nation

    • State

    • MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area)

    • County

  2. Select a state or choose All States.

  3. Use the search bar to locate specific regions.

  4. Select individual regions from the results list or choose Select All.

  5. Select Select to apply the chosen regions to the report.

The Browse option is useful when you know the specific geographic areas you want to analyze and prefer to manually select them rather than using drive-time or distance-based criteria.

Groups

Use the Groups tab to select from previously created region groups.

The Groups tab includes the following categories:

  • My Groups – Groups you have created.

  • Template Groups – Predefined groups provided within Analyst.

  • Org Groups – Groups created and shared within your organization.

  • All Groups – Displays all available groups.

Use the search bar to locate specific groups. You can select one or more groups to include in your report.

Examples of available groups may include geographic classifications or predefined regional groupings such as Rural-Urban Continuum Codes or regional divisions.
