Metal, Plastic and Other Production Workers

Metal, plastic, and other production workers repair, test, adjust or install electronic equipment, industrial production, and processing machinery or refinery & pipeline distribution systems, perform routine machinery maintenance, move heavy equipment & machinery according to layout plans or blueprints, tend machines to extrude thermoplastic or metal materials, produce precision parts & instruments, tend furnaces, mold plastic, and metal castings & patterns, operate and develop computer-controlled machines & robots.

Workers also operate forging & sawing machines, painting, spraying, plastic & metal forming, cleaning, plating & coating, turning, milling, engraving & tending machinery. As well as drilling & grinding and flame-cutting & hand-soldering heating equipment.

Involves production work related to metal, plastic, electrolysis process, chemical processes, coal, glass, stone & concrete, rubber & tires, sand, insulating materials, brick & tile, candles, wood, electronic semiconductors, decorative articles such as furniture, eyeglasses & other precision optical equipment, orthotics supportive devices, jewelry repair & design and nonagricultural raw materials.

Lastly, this group includes workers involved in developing and processing of photographic images but excludes all activities related to fabric and shoemaking and the following categories; “Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Except Engines” (49-3042), “Maintenance and Repair Workers, General” (49-9071), “Woodworking Machine Setters, Operators, and Tenders” (51-7040), Excludes “Paper Goods Machine Setters, Operators, and Tenders” (51-9196) and “Prepress Technicians and Workers” (51-5111).
